Main Street Fort Smith invites the public to “Pop On By” for a festive block party on Tuesday, June 24, from 2:00 – 3:30 PM, to celebrate the completion of “Mind Gap,” a bold new sidewalk mural by Northwest Arkansas artist TigerSasha. The mural is located in the 7th Street pedestrian corridor between 702 Garrison Avenue and the B.G. Hendrix State Building at 616 Garrison Avenue.
The celebration will offer the public a chance to meet the artist, experience the newly completed mural, and enjoy popcorn from downtown business The Popped Popcorn Company and other light refreshments. The event is free and open to all.
“Mind Gap” is the first public art installation in the newly activated corridor, which also includes bistro lighting designed to improve walkability and enhance the connection between Garrison Avenue and Rogers Avenue — helping to bridge foot traffic between the Belle Grove Historic District and The Bakery District.
“This project brings together everything we love about downtown — public art, community connections, and creative placemaking,” said Amanda Hager, Executive Director of Main Street Fort Smith. “We’re excited to celebrate how art and infrastructure can work together to transform a forgotten space into something beautiful and functional.”
The mural was made possible in part by the Public Art Grant Program from the Division of Arkansas Heritage, funded by the 1/8 cent conservation tax (Amendment 75), and with support from the Fort Smith Central Business Improvement District (CBID).
Main Street Fort Smith extends special thanks to CBID and the City of Fort Smith for their partnership and contributions to this larger alleyway activation project.
