Enrollment is Open at Preschool for the Creative Arts!

Community School of the Arts is excited to begin fall registration for Preschool.  The CSA Preschool for the Creative Arts is the first ever arts preschool in Arkansas! Children ages 3-5 are eligible and taught through an arts-based curriculum from artist-teachers who have experience in early childhood education.

The CSA Preschool is currently in its first year of operation.  Mrs. Judy Riley serves as the Director, with a host of arts instructors working daily with the children. The CSA preschool is a very special place for young children.  Each day is devoted to teaching children through music, theatre, dance, and visual art.  Every part of learning happens through arts activities that engage children socially, emotionally, cognitively, and physically.  It is an active environment where learning is memorable and rewarding.  In fact, children do not want to leave because they love the environment so much!

The curriculum is designed in themes that are explored in each of the arts disciplines and at various levels depending upon the age and learning ability of each child. The preschool also provides special artistic events and guest artists to visit and perform. The program not only meets all Arkansas state standards for early childhood education, it exceeds the standards in order to fully prepare children for kindergarten and first grade.

It is interesting to note that at this time, Governor Sanders is placing reading literacy high on her agenda for reform due to insufficient reading levels at third grade.  The CSA Preschool for the Creative Arts prepares children to begin reading at age four.  In addition, children also learn multiple languages including the language of music, sign language, and Spanish.  The method of early childhood education provided at the CSA preschool is second to none in the nation!

Studies have shown that an arts immersion program develops the whole child into a mature and well-rounded child. Children are far more prepared to go to the next level after completing this type of curriculum.  They not only have advanced learning skills, their social and emotional development is accelerated compared to others at that age.

Simply stated, children who participate in the arts at a very young age progress socially, emotionally, and cognitively at a faster pace than children who do not have the arts.  They also do better in math and science with arts participation and learn to read faster and at a higher level than children who do not have arts early in their development.

The CSA Preschool is not only currently enrolling students for the remainder of this semester, fall enrollment is now open.  Parents may choose from several options:

  1. 8:30am-12:30pm (drop-off as early as 7:30am)
  2. 8:30am-2:30pm
  3. 8:30am-5:30pm
  4. 2:30pm-5:30pm

The curriculum portion of the preschool is taught every morning.  Lunch, a recess, and nap time happens following the morning session until 2:30pm.  From 2:30-5:30 the preschool offers Extended Arts Care activities.  This portion of the day includes many arts activities from painting and drawing classes to a dance company, to choir, foreign language, sign language, piano class, a theatre company, to music classes such as ukulele, drums, violin, and bells.  The afternoon is filled with group activities that further stimulate the brain, develop focus, foster physical coordination, and build teamwork and community.

The CSA Preschool for the Creative Arts is offered year round with summer camps coming and the fall semester beginning in August.  CSA anticipates at least 30 children to be enrolled by fall and are already moving toward that number.  It is important to register early to reserve a spot. A simple registration packet and deposit are all that is necessary to get registered.  The registration packet can be downloaded from our website at: www.csafortsmith.org/preschool-program

How important are the arts in your child’s life?  They are so important that you can’t afford not to get them involved.  Participation in the arts is crucial to developing your child into a well-rounded, emotionally healthy, and successful human being.  Once your child gets connected to the arts, the bond for them becomes so magnetic, you won’t be able to pull them away!
