Community School of the Arts Announces Summer Camps and Classes

Community School of the Arts is excited to announce the lineup of camps, classes, and activities for Summer 2023!  Activities are available in music, theatre, dance, and visual art for children as young as age three through teens and early college. Even adults can enroll.  There is something for everyone!

Pop, Rock, & All That Jazz Camp, an instrumental and vocal jazz camp directed by Don Bailey, is happening July 10-14 from 9am to 4pm each day.  This camp is open to students entering grades 7-12 and provided FREE of charge by the Academic Enrichment for Gifted/Talented in Summer Grant through the Arkansas Department of Education. Music camps and classes for the summer include Piano Discoveries: Under the Sea (for beginners) and Disney Piano Camp (for intermediate students) led by Rilla Stone, Ultimate Drums Camp led by Bruce Fowler, and Summer Strings for violin, viola, cello, and bass with sessions for beginners and for intermediate to advanced students directed by Alli Chastain and Alicen Kootz.  There will also be a String Ensemble class for adult and nontraditional students on Monday evenings!

Theatre camps, dance camps, art camps, and preschool arts camps will all be offered this summer!  Students in grades 7-12 can register now for our youth theatre production of Godspell the Musical directed by Cody Walls and Dylan Blackwood.  Students in grades K-2 and grades 3-6 will also have the opportunity to experience a taste of Broadway as they learn to sing, dance, and act simultaneously in Broadway Intensive,Rising Stars, or Smash Hit!  Students who are interested in learning more about the history of dance will enjoy Dancing Through Life! For a hands-on visual art project, students will enjoy making collages with Instructor Sherry Jones in Come Together with Collage.

Private lessons are offered year-round, and students can jump in at any time! Lessons can begin in some disciplines as early as age three and are offered for all ages, including adults!  Private lessons are offered in art, acting, dance, voice, piano, strings, guitar, woodwinds, brass, and percussion.

Music Therapy is a special program offered at CSA by Board-Certified Music Therapist Rachel Burgos-Griner.  Private one-on-one sessions as well as a group class, Songwriting for Expression, will be offered this Summer!  Through music therapy, students work on physical, psychological, cognitive, and social skills to promote positive development.  Areas such as language development, attention skills, motor control, gait training, anxiety, coping skills, and more are explored.

At our Preschool for the Creative Arts, housed by Central Presbyterian Church at 2901 Rogers Avenue in Fort Smith, students will have the option of attending the summer semester of Extended Arts Care Monday through Friday for the full day, half day, or afternoon.  Our preschoolers learn piano, ukulele, acting, sign language, dance, visual arts, and more!  This program is open to students age 3-5 who are independently toilet trained. CSA has some of the finest instructors who are professionals in their field.  Teamwork, connections, and exploration of talent are at the heart of CSA and its mission.  Teachers love to work with students and create ways for their talents to soar!  Summer camps and classes begin in June and July so now is the time to get signed up!  The deadline to register is one week prior to the starting date of each camp or class.  CSA is located at St. Boniface School at 201 North 19th Street, Fort Smith, AR.
