Vasile Popa, MD, a board-certified neurologist, recently joined Baptist Health-Fort Smith.
Dr. Popa earned a medical degree from the George Emil Palade University of Medicine, Pharmacy Science and Technology of Tagu Mures in Romania in the late 1980s. He worked as a neurologist and professor until coming to Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans to join their stroke team as a neurosonologist. After 11 years, Dr. Popa began pursuing his dream of earning a medical license in the United States and entering into a neurology residency program.
Dr. Popa completed a neurology residency at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in 2019 and went on to work at hospitals across the country including some in Minnesota, West Virginia and Connecticut.
Dr. Popa speaks fluently in English, Romanian, and Hungarian. He also speaks French and German. He cares for patients in the hospital, as well as the clinic.
