The Fort Smith Regional Art Museum (RAM) Time Capsule
The installation of a historic time capsule at an art museum is a significant event that captures the imagination of visitors and art enthusiasts alike. Such an installation serves as a physical representation of the cultural and social values of the time period in which it is created, providing future generations with a glimpse into the past. In celebration of 75 years as an art leader in the community, the Fort Smith Regional Art Museum (RAM) is pleased to invite the public to attend a special celebration dedicating its Heritage Time Capsule December 9, 2023, at 3PM after the RAM Annual Holiday Art Party.
The contents of RAM’s Heritage Time Capsule will be carefully curated to reflect the essence of the era, including art pieces, letters, photographs, and other artifacts not only from RAM, but from prominent people and businesses in the community. The placement of the capsule further emphasizes the importance of preserving cultural heritage and encourages visitors to reflect on the significance of art and its impact on society.
“The installation of this historic time capsule at our museum is a testament to our commitment to preserving cultural heritage and inspiring future generations through the power of art,” says Michael Hall, Executive Director of RAM. “As an institution dedicated to promoting artistic expression, we believe it is essential to capture the essence of our time and preserve it for posterity. We hope that the time capsule will inspire curiosity and reflection in those who learn about it, and that future generations will look back on it with a sense of wonder and appreciation for the rich cultural legacy that we have inherited.”
During the event, the Heritage Time Capsule will be filled with various items representing RAM and the River Valley. After internment, the time capsule will not be opened again for 75 years, during RAMs 150thAnniversary in 2098!

Located at 1601 Rogers Avenue in downtown Fort Smith, the Fort Smith Regional Art Museum offers a modern, 16,000-square-foot facility dedicated to fine art exhibitions from world-class artists, important traveling exhibitions, permanent collection exhibitions, and works by emerging artists. RAM actively engages with the community, providing professional art workshops, juried art contests, online art classes, and free Saturday art-making programs to fulfill the cultural needs of the region.
