The Guidance Center and Logan County Detention Center Implement In-Jail Recovery Program

Jul 11, 2023 | News & Events

An initial step in creating a thriving recovery community in Logan County is taking place. A collaboration between the Logan County Detention Center and Western Arkansas Counseling and Guidance Center, commonly referred to as The Guidance Center (TGC), is implementing a recovery program in the jail to help reduce recidivism rates, crime in the community, and opioid use disorder.

This project will bring an evidence-based program of recovery to those suffering from the disease of addiction. Our goal will be to connect inmates with a comprehensive treatment plan and empower them to become productive members of society. Upon release, participants will be required to continue care with The Guidance Center and complete our addiction services outpatient treatment program.

For the past 18 months The Logan County Sheriff’s Office has worked alongside The Guidance Center’s Peer Recovery Support Specialists in this new cutting edge program that has changed 21 lives thus far. These former inmates have reunited with family, accessed treatment services, or participated in the faith based community.

The Logan County Peer Recovery Program has been made possible through the Arkansas Opioid Recovery Partnership (ARORP) Settlement Funding from the opioid abatement partnership between the Arkansas Municipal League (AML) and the Association of Arkansas Counties (AAC). The AAC and AML formed a partnership, ARORP, to oversee the strategic disbursement of opioid settlement dollars at the city and county levels.“This partnership represents wrongs made right, a significant step to abate the loss families and individuals have experienced due to opioid misuse and addiction” says ARORP Director Kirk Lane.

The Guidance Center and Logan County’s Sheriff’s Office remains committed to enhancing the safety and quality of life for the people in the Logan County community.
